Playing with the big boys

We have had one beautiful sunny short-wearing day where we travelled to Oudenburg and spent the night on a purpose built mooring with, luxury of luxuries, free water and electricity so I made full use and … put a load of washing on. I do like to live on the edge! A local small holder visited us offering his wares so we bought some eggs and shallots, apparently he watches out for boats to arrive each day.  The following day he returned and offered home made Nutella, of which Graham bought three pots!

Teddy has learned to pee on the lead … its only taken 11 years but I am very pleased because sometimes he can’t be let off so it makes my life alot easier.  However he did shame himself my rolling in something vile … boys eh?!

Yesterday I saw a plastic hire boat drive straight into a bridge pillar and bounce off … that was amusing. Of course they were going much too fast and over steered. Considering we all had to do courses to be able to drive our boats in Europe it amazes me that you can hire a boat here and use it with only a 10 minute tutorial!

We are now seeing enormous commercial barges which we were warned to stay clear of.  So far we have had no problems and they all are being very courteous and slowing down when passing.

Now we are moored up in Brugge at a proper mooring so no more mountaineering for a bit! Yesterday afternoon we took the dogs for a stroll into the city centre to have a look around.

We have yet to go under this amazing bridge.

It seems to be Belgium’s aim to find the most innovative way of raising a bridge. Only yesterday we were faced with another way.

I am fast becoming a bridge anorak!

There are some charming buildings here.

As you approach the centre you have to walk through this archway.

Then suddenly there seem to be no modern buildings.

Of course we stopped for a beer.

I am always stunned by the amount of attention Airedales get. We had people wanting photos with them, wanting to touch them and cuddle them. I didn’t think to photograph the crowd circling us but perhaps I will next time.

I found a few delightful details I couldn’t resist taking pictures of.

Late afternoon the heavens opened but then we were left with a wonderful rainbow.

Jill and I have just been to the local supermarket and bought far too much. The other shoppers seemed quite entertained by us … I can’t think why!

Some of the language can be badly translated …

Thank you for the photos, a nice mix of architecture and engineering beauties, plus of course you two Ladies! Those bridges are beautiful (I’m an anorak and proud of it). I should think it focuses the mind to meet a barge coming the other way that Avalon could fit in the hold of, let alone Jill and Grahams boat! I see that Jill had to outdo Graham with the shopping, the other day he bought a SMALL box of cakes so Jill gets a whole shopping bag of Kipling? Tee Hee!
